2009 Camaro (Lots of Pics)

Well, I'm sure plenty of other people have modeled this car, but what the hell!

This is my first WIP on these Forums! Which are great by the way!

I've decided to model this car using The Nurbs curves method. Using Nurbs curves to map out the Profile of the car, and then using them as reference to build up a poly base mesh. The Adding detail to it.

Anyway, heres some Pics of the Nurbs Curves:

Heres some Pics of the Mesh mesh i built up using the Curves of reference.

And heres where i am so far:

Theres still allot of work to do, and i don't have experience modeling cars... I've attempted a couple before.. but this is pretty much my First "serious" attempt!

Well, C&C More than welcome!

Welcome to smcars and enjoy your stay!

Be sure to keep us updated!
You've done very good job on Camaro. Mesh is smooth but has few pretty small bugs. Please post some bigger images and wireframes.

Good luck!

@Younglion: Thanks for the comment, it means allot! I've seen some of your work over at 3D Buzz, you have some brilliant models!

@Niray: Thanks for the comment! You want bigger images??? Here you go!!!

Did some more tweaking on the front bumper, and finalized the hood!
All the areas shaded Red are in Sub-Ds, and are not finished, they're just place holders.

Oh, and i know the Fog light holes are missing. I'm adding them later, so as to not compromise my creases.

Pics:

Thanks again for the comments.

C&C more than welcome! More updates tomorrow.

Looks clean so far. Nice project for a first post, and welcome !

When posting wireframes, you should turn off mesh subdivision, because it's a bit difficult to evaluate your mesh with these pictures.

Also, you should move away a bit your camera / zoom out in the viewport.

The upper air intake in front of the car needs more hard sides. Please check this refpic : http://faimg1.forum-auto.com/mesimag...8/camaro16.jpg

Thanks, tom120934. Your right about the upper intake... good catch! And thanks for the Ref!

As for the wireframe, i didn't realize i had left the Smooth Mesh on

Anyway, I've been busy today running around like a headless chicken.... tis the busy time of year.

But when i got back i managed to get some more work done, not much but something.... and something is better than nothing... hopefully

So, I've mostly just finalized the Front bumper and the Hood, I've also converted the Main body to Poly's and have begun working on that. I've pretty much Finished the front Fenders, oh, and i also rebuilt the Lights from the inside out!

Plus i fixed the upper intake. Thanks again tom!

Oh, and Smooth Mesh is Off. What you see is what you get!

C&C more than welcome!

Hopefully i can get some "Real" work done on it tomorrow!

Happy Holidays!

so I've played around with Maya over the years and I was wondering about your modeling technique. so you created the mesh curves and then filled-in surfaces? Could you give me the basic flow? I've tried doing it that way - nurbs curves and surfaces - had some luck, but generally didn't get the results you have without having a number of uv curves....

thanks - nice work.

thanks - nice work.
Well, I generally start by creating CV curves and lining them up with reference images, in all views. Once i have all the main areas mapped out with CVs. I then use a simple poly plane (or similar) and begin lining them up with the Refs, and using the "Snap to Curve" feature to make sure the ploy plane conforms with all the Curves, and thus conforms with the Refs.
I feel this gives you greater control because you don't have to line up the polys with the images. You can snap them to a "Real" object in the scene.

I didn't actually use any of the Surface tools, to create the car. Though I've often thought about trying it. But I'm still kinda new to 3D and Maya. I've been doing it for just over a year, and theres so much to learn....... I can Imagen in 10 years time i will still be learning.... and thats a good thing to me!

Oh, i also use Sub-Ds sometimes. when my base Poly mesh is finished. I convert it to Sub-Ds, and use it's advanced crease tools to quickly build up detail, and use it simply to see if the Poly base mesh has enough Geo to hold it's own, and that it's going to hold it's form.

Thanks for your interest.

Hopefully i will have some more Updates tomorrow.

Looks good, but your mesh looks still really heavy to me. Just to be clear, had you placed every vertices / edge shown on this picture ? I think you can get the same result with many many less polygons.

Another critic : is missing a air intake in front of rear wheels. Here is another refpic to check with : http://miniburb.files.wordpress.com/...ept_camaro.jpg

I haven't modeled every edge there 8o .... that would be a bit to much work for me! It's been Smoothed/Subdivided for rendering. I built a base mesh, and used that to bevel all the edges and then smoothed it for rendering, so it looked smooth. If i leave it at the base mesh poly count. It looks rough in the Renders..... So what am i supposed to do? I can't Render it at the Lo-poly... it would look awful!

Anyway, i haven't modeled the rear intake yet. The rear end is still very much just begun, though thanks for the ref, and your comments.

I will post some images of the base mesh in a bit.

Thanks again!
