Fiat 500 Tutorial

Hi,
I just started working with max abaout a month ago.

Now I try to make the Fiat 500 by this tutorial.

3DTotal Tutorials

First question:
Can I use the symmetrymodifier instead of the mirror or are there any advantages or disadvanteges?

Looks like a good start Pete, I usually use the Symmetry modifier instead of the mirror, because it welds the middle for you and you can the put the turbosmooth modifier over the top of that and see where you need to adjust the middle verts for the perfect shape.

So, here is what I made today.
I'm very busy at work so everything goes really slow. I'd just 30 minutes to modell today.

I hope I can finish the car this week.

Another beginners question.

Why is it better to modell with editable mesh instead of editable poly?

can I cut vertices in editable mesh or just edges?

Pete

Its actually better to model in Editable poly I find, just that tutorial uses Editable Mesh.
Looks like the little fiat is coming along nicely, cant wait to see it finished!

Now it starts to look more or less like a car.

But I have a problem again. See attached files.

The vertices in the circles are welded together. When I add the MeshSmooth it looks like the second picture.

What did I made wrong?

Hi Pete, there has to be an extra poly in there and thats why the verts arent welding, try having a look for an extra poly or somehting like that

A new day, a new problem.

What wents wrong here? I just selected the edges I was told and chamfered them 0,1. And that's what it looks now.

When I add aMeshSmooth now it looks again like the picture above.

I looks like you have some polys behind it that arent supposed to be there, see the darker blue inside the model? Try and see if they are supposed to be there, and if they arent then get rid of them.
