thats alot closer you missing the rear shackles . typically the front end of the spring is fixed and the rear has a skackle to allow for the spring to extend and contract as it moves up and down. on medium duty truck the rear was commonly just allowed to slide in a hanger. i have to do some work at a block plant this week ill see if i can take my canera and get you some dore detialed photos of the front and rear suspension. but your on the rught track.

![]() caribcanuk, if you could get photos, that would be awsome, but dont put yourself out for me ![]() glad to know im on the right tracks, I'm going to get some more body detail done then I'll come back to the suspension ![]() ![]() ![]() 2nd Place in the SMCars "WZA" contest ---- www.gvgraphics.co.uk ---- www.myspace.com/greenvampire ---- ---- SDMF ---- BLS UK Chapter ---- |

spent a bit of time on the rear, as well as some UV mapping just to keep on top of it lol
let me know if its ok, or if its horribly inacurate ![]() ![]() ![]() 2nd Place in the SMCars "WZA" contest ---- www.gvgraphics.co.uk ---- www.myspace.com/greenvampire ---- ---- SDMF ---- BLS UK Chapter ---- |

Nice level of details. This one is really looking like to become one of the most famous trucks here at SMC !

![]() ok, heres a small update, just been fiddling around abit, im using a certain amount of imagination, and source images that aren't of the same truck... so the running gear wont be 100% accurate ![]() ![]() 2nd Place in the SMCars "WZA" contest ---- www.gvgraphics.co.uk ---- www.myspace.com/greenvampire ---- ---- SDMF ---- BLS UK Chapter ---- |

another quick update,
just been working on the fifthwheel, not sure what goes under it though? also, ignore the Ubrackets on the rear leafsprings, im going to move them across so they dont go through the rear axle lol also, would this truck have a prop-shaft to the last axle, or would it just be a dead axle? I figured because of its age, it would be a dead axle (rather than having a 6wheel drive system), but feel free to correct me ![]() cheers ![]() ![]() 2nd Place in the SMCars "WZA" contest ---- www.gvgraphics.co.uk ---- www.myspace.com/greenvampire ---- ---- SDMF ---- BLS UK Chapter ---- |

on tandem rear axle trucks both were driven, unless the rear most axle was a tag axle. but mostly in that era was a tandem axle set up using a walking beam and both could be powered. you had a small driveshaft that connected the front did to the rear. the main diveshaft had a shaft that extended thru the diff to the back side to power the rear. typically the rear was the one that was powered and the front had a air or vacuum pot to activate it

thanks for the info mate,
so the main driveshaft should go through the first rear axle? or should there be a seperate smaller driveshaft running between the two? (sorry again for my nooooooooobness) ![]() ![]() 2nd Place in the SMCars "WZA" contest ---- www.gvgraphics.co.uk ---- www.myspace.com/greenvampire ---- ---- SDMF ---- BLS UK Chapter ---- |

ok...
I have made little to no progress due to a few things... illness, work, builders, etc etc however, today I decided to do a few normalmap tests, I though this might be a good idea since ive never tried it before.... and boy, am I glad I tried this before doing it for the first time with the Truck!! Ok, so as you can see from the attachments, I have problems. I made a quick high poly cube, and a lowpoly one to project to... I am using Maya, and I used the "modify - Surface shader" method to do this. (as explained in the help files in Maya) as you can see... what was a relitivly simple shape to project, has come out looking wierd. a few troubleshooting things I have already done : - Checked the rez - its set very high so should not be pixelating - checked the envelope % - I've tried all options... just gives different combinations of the same wierd result. - changed the "World space" and "Object space" projections - no difference - No overlapping UV's im confused! ![]() ![]() 2nd Place in the SMCars "WZA" contest ---- www.gvgraphics.co.uk ---- www.myspace.com/greenvampire ---- ---- SDMF ---- BLS UK Chapter ---- |
