well thats the whole point is to make it with alot of detail, im the kind of person that if it doesnt look like the real-life counterpart then i need to make it look like it suppose to. and plus, doin this much detail makes it challenging on my modeling skills and therefore will make me a better modeler, or at least thats the way i see it, plus im bored with making bodies of cars and getting bored with the car before i even get to the engine. and the engine is pretty simplistic in shapes which are mostly cylinders anyways so its much easier to model, it just looks difficult bc of all the pieces that are in an engine, plus this will go great with my portfolio anyways. so thats why i want to model the whole thing

Do you use booleans to cut out some of the shapes and then clean up the mesh? I'm making a fairly detailed carbie and am doing that. Just wondering really

nope i try to stay away from booleans, but what i did for the top and side was make an autocad drawing and drop it into 3ds max and then make it a editable poly then extrude it to give it thickness, i honestly can say that i havent used booleans on anything for this project

It's looking great sofar! The only thing that looks a bit odd are those bolts (they are bolts, right?). The tread looks a bit thick.

Nice idea to work with AutoCAD too for this stuff.

The easiest thing I use for bolt threads is the spring model, its under dynamic object in the create tab. Just set it to 3 or 4 sides and just wrap it around a normal cylinder, it seems to work pretty well.

alrighty long time no see on this project but i've started working with booleans alot more and it seems to be working out nicely when available, so here's an update on the engine.

i know the top part isnt suppose to be right there but i forgot to move it when i started rendering hope you all like it

i've looked at alot of stuff that tom sullivan has done on here, and he is a very motivating person for me, so i've been tryin to use booleans on those hard to get spots on the engine and its been workin great, still got alot of getting use to it but i think this project will turn out good once i put more time into it.

oh yea btw the pics are a before and after kind of thing, bc the first pic each shape on the side of the lower part of the engine were just primitives and the pic on the right is after i've boolean'd most of the shapes on there, see if you can tell a difference.

oh yea and i know about the normals that are on there too.
