About the rendering setup : in this thread, it's just Direct Lighting with Ambient Occlusion. I mean, I didn't use global illumination so far for this car.
Why ? Because I just didn't bother with reading Yaf(a)Ray manual when I started this project. I've read it since, and I now use a new rendering setup which can be seen in this test : http://www.smcars.net/forums/208272-post30.html
About materials : yes in this thread I just used the "Clay render" option, which turn off all your shaders to use a default one. Nice option, but not suitable if you want to try one shader in a clay render.
So I searched which settings are needed to produce the same result : it's just the default Blender shader, white with 0.8 reflection in Lambert.
Hope it helps. I think I will write a short tutorial about the two rendering setups, because both can achieve nice renders but settings are really different.

Double post !
I just rendered the model with rendering settings of my "city" project. The render below is quite different from the previous one (re attached here for easier comparison)

That car looks very good, although the seam between trunklid and frontbumper is not right, it seems to run uneven. Also the wheels look a bit small to me, mainly the rear one.

Long time no update. Thanks everyone for commenting.
Markomaniax and yazz.attack, thanks for your kind words.
CLR-AMG, I was already told I forgot a edge on the side, so I will add it later. So reworking on this area will allow me to clean what you've spotted. And I'll doublecheck rim sizes.
et_fone_home, thanks for the support !
Eventually here's an update : start of details in the door bay. Doesn't look too much difficult, but it takes me a couple of days to get the shapes right and the model smooth and clean. Too bad that camera angle doesn't show many details. Stay tuned for another render.

Thanks NE, glad you like. I will fix what you spotted. I already have a way too long todo list
Thanks younglion, I will post some wires later today.
Here's yet another small update, start of the modeling on the windshield.

that looks hot, very cool. The only thing i can spot so far is that the sharper line on the door should curve a bit downwards in the end. It could be the camera but it looks like it's going straight backwards atm.

I think I've understood what you noticed, Erik_S, but can you please confirm it with a pic ? Thanks in advance.
Here's an update, transparent windshield with some progress around it. I now realize how thin is the whole frame, so I will redo it asap.

I've played with lighting settings a bit. Here's what I've got so far. I still need to add some contrast and to optimize render times (about 1 hour for this one...)
