Here is something I did last week. Took me a total of 12 hrs to complete and was done for a client using 7 reference images. The cars name is Tata Sumo and it is an Indian car with almost no reference online lol.

Well usually I like to not ask for assistance but meh I'm having trouble with transition to high poly lol.. Id like to attempt it though. Anyhow I started this a couple hours ago and meh... its not that great.. I feel like certain areas could be better. I mean right now I'm not really concerned about accuracy ( I'll get that later) I really want technique and areas to improve on. So here is my WIPs.

BTW.. I thought to use this thread because its new.. and if I feel up to it I'll make it have its own thread, but right now its too experimental.

good idea for a thread, heres some of my sha-bang clogging up the closet

Peterbilt 351 - yep, still aint finished :? I've been plodding along with it, in reality its probably not that far away, but finding the time is just impossible.

Website / Drive-in - I'm currently in the middle of re-doing my website, with a truely Epic intro animation, its based around a Drive-In movie, out in Texas... no sneak peaks though sorry peeps

all in all, I have little to no time for personal projects atm, I'm working freelance for a games company, 13 / 14 hour days, my only free day being Sunday.... but due to recent building work on the house, my free time is taken up decorating and getting my new office ready ( I will post pics when done )

So I guess.... watch this space! 0_o

I've attached a render of the peterbilt... not sure if I ever uploaded this one to its WIP thread here, but this was a month or 4 ago lol .... its progressed a teeeeeny bit since then..... you know, moved a vertex lmao

Hey Icekid, why aren't you using blueprints ? There's some really good ones. I also have tons of (self-made) ref on this car.

GV : the Pete looks great, nicely detailed Also yeah I think I see what you mean.. I did that on the rear, I'm just so used to what chamfers do on my game cars, so I was timid about it.

Redstar : THanks, glad you like.. maybe I'll actually finish it and take it all the way.. not sure though lol

Xoliul : hey, well I dont like to get caught up in prints. Reason I chose this car was Ive done it a number of times and felt I knew it better than a new car.I sometimes say, " I dont like not being able to model any car I want because a print doesnt exist. I mean I know they exist for this car, but its like I dont want to get to used to them since so many cars I like/want to model dont have them.. its like training for me lol , yeah sounds geeky/wierd.

cheers icekid,
I know what you mean about the prints, its more of a gratifying process when you model from ref photos, and it always a good help if you know the car well!

I use prints (if there are) in the beginning to make the basic shape. When I get to the details, I only use referencepics. Wouldn't be problem for me to model a car without prints either, matter of taste also me thinks

So an update from my end. I have been learning other stuff besides car modeling and here is one of my tests. This is a chair leg. I did not model the leg but here is a picture of it in its default state. Than I put it into Mud box did all the detailing there, put it into max. UVmaped it. And than rendered out normal/spec/diffuse maps.

Yeap basiclly you throw your model in there subdivide it and sculpt right on the model and export it. And it comes in a polygon format kinda thing. Its cool though.
