Photo Realism and Tutorials

Hey everyone... first time i've posted on here... and I know my models aren't the greatest so please be gentle. But I have a few questions.

One - There are so many tutorials on here about building cars.. what are some of the best ones u have used??

Two - How do I make my models look more real??? It is with a shader... or lighting... i just don't get it.

I've added some attachments with my work cause I can't seem to get the pictures to show up in my text.

I model with maya... any hints, tips, suggestions, are much appreciated.

Thanks a lot!!!

Photo Realism and Tutorials

Hi, and welcome to the forums
Your truck model looks pretty nice. I use 3dsmax, but I've seen some maya tuts at www.learningmaya.com
A tut I used is the Fiat 500 polymodeling tutorial, which you can see here
www.3dtotal.com. They have a whole bunch of excellent modeling tutorials. Another one I used is http://hem.passagen.se/dh1998/3d/gto/modelling01.html. It's pretty detailed.

As for making your cars look real: good lighting with car paint materials. I believe.

Hope this helps!

Awesome

black,

thanks for the links and the ideas. I was worried no one was going to help out

lol... and as far as car paint materials... any advice on those... i mainly use a bloom shader... or a car paint shader and modify it a little. Those shaders can be found at

http://www.highend3d.com (maya section, shaders)

I'll check out those tutorials and see what I can do!!

ok modeling cars is kind of fun and i learned it from lewis car tutorial on
www.lwg3d.com in there interactive tutorial section.

good shading depends on the lighting and enviroment.
a bad enviroment is for example a groundplane with a black background (no reflections)

a good car shader needs fresnel effects on the reflection channel and a high specularity

there is more u can do but figure it out at ur own

best regards,

SG
