sorry, i forgot to ask somethin else. Is it a good idea to triangulate the mesh? I know that triangles are not good for when the mesh is goin to be converted to subdivs. So what's better? convert to subdivs or triangulate the mesh?

thanx.

You don't need to triangulate the mesh yet but you will need to eventually, all polygons are are triangulated by default so if you don't define the triangle edges yourself then Maya will do it for you and probably won't put the edges where you want them. A useful thing would be to turn off all smoothing on the model so you can see how all the triangles line up and whether they are in the best place to define the surface of the car.

My advice on your model would be to look carefully where you are 'spending' your polygons, if you are aiming to make a low poly car then you could make better use of the polys you've used.

For example, you have a number of very thin bevelled edges around the fog lights and front bumper and yet the curve of the wheel arch is very crude with only 6 sides to it. The model would be improved by cleaning up the wasted small polygons and building them into a smoother curve to the wheel arch. The lines in the body work that define the wheel arches are an important feature of the focus and you need to include these as well as getting the body shape and silhouette right.

Don't get too hung up on small details like the headlights until the overall shape and proportion are right, hope this is helpful...

The tutorial looks ok as an introduction to using Maya, but I would say concentrate on modelling well in polygons before moving on to subdivision surfaces
