Lightwave Noob - McLaren WIP

Hi All,

This is my first attempt at making a car, and my first attempt with Lightwave (I started learning the software just a few hours ago). I have found that Lightwave is surprisingly easy to use. Here's a Mclaren that I am learning from "Phillip" at liquid.arts.

It's about 2am so all that I've been able to do is finish up the major spline work. I will start the patching tomorrow and will post an update.

Please be gentle. hock:

Well as Nighteye said the cage appears alright so far. Be interesting to see it when you patch it . Anyhow no comments yet , keep it up.

Thanks all for the comments so far.
Thanks Nighteye for the welcome.

Toidi, I found it alot easier to use the spline draw tool. Make your points to the shape of the model and then move them accordingly. Once you are satisified with it, then finalize it.. I do it this way because I may want an additional point later. After you deselect the spline draw, you can always manipulate the points. I find this splining technique to be a bit more intuitive than the box modeling method, although some may disagree with me.

Anyway, Once you finish with parts of the cage, you can then 'weld' the points.

Well. I stayed up a little later then I should have. I'm pretty much a walking zombie today, but here's some patching, but still needs tweaking.

I'll do more work later and post. The sandman beckons.

The hood could use some better polyplacement, but then again, you've just patched it, so I can't ask you to make it perfect right away
But well, just don't forget when it's all patched
Nice work sofar

Thanks Nighteye.

Here's some more patching that I completed last night. I still need to patch the rear portion of the car and once all the preliminaries are done I can start tweaking some more things. I did the top vents last night and some minor tweaking.

From this pic, I can see that I still need to fix up the lower windsheild area as it is not smooth. I'll get to it soon enough, plus try and make the polyplacement a little smoother as you said.

Lookin good, I also use LW. Can't really see anythign wrong so far, but if you go into the Display options, under viewport and turn off show cages and show guides, you want have those aqua colored things around your model..

Those of you with trouble with bezier tool, when you miss and add a new row, you can either move it out of the way and use it again later, or press the "n" key and click delete last But the point-extrude point-extrude is easier than splines all the wya :-P

Thanks Macneil for that "aqua" cage thinngy. Thank god, I've been looking around the interface to find out what it was. And being new, just dealt with it.

Will keep working on the model. When you say "extrude" do you mean the "extend" tool? I used a combination of patching, then extending some of the points as necessary.
