DON'T BE SCARED OF BY THE FIRST PICS. IT GETS BETTER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE . PLEASE COMMENT!

I'm modelling my dad's opel zafira, mainly for fun, but also for use in games like GTA VC. This is my first try at modellling anything in 3D. I'm using the tutorial on zmodeler.nfscheats.com, but didn't feel like making another beemer . I've modelled part of the body and completed modelling the wheel. It has 864 polies (= faces, right?). That's quite low, right?

1. That's why I'm wondering if there is an easy way to increase the polies on the tire, to make it rounder than it is now.

2. I have a problem texturing the tire tread, I can get the texture on, but the picture shows what I can't fix. Thx for any help.

I will post a screen of the body later as I first want to tweak it a little before being yelled at in here . Expect a pic later tonight or tomorrow .

Thanks,

Paul

Well, for a car tire, it's way too round. It looks more like a motor tire now..
Though the rim looks very nice

As for the texturing, you should map it in a particular way on the UV Mapper, in order to fix that... For now, I think it's too hard...

Anyways, good start on that rim

Thx, I see what you mean and I think I have it right now. The tire looks rounder too, now. I might also make the side a little less round, but I can't seem to do that with the scale tool (select the part of the side i want to push inwart on both sides and scale in top view doesn't work).

Hmm, could you just give a hint on that 'particular way', I think I know what you are talking about. Anyways, I'm a quick learner (Nederlanders zijn dat over het algemeen, toch? ).

Thx!

Thanks a lot for helping me out with mapping that tire tread NightEye . I think the tire is finished now (apart from mapping the back), if anyone sees anything that needs improvement, let me know please!

I've tweaked the front of the body and I'd like to know what y'all think . Tell me if it needs to be improved or if I'm using the wrong technique. I'd also like to know if I've oriented all the edges the right way.

In other words: Criticize please, I want to learn! But keep in mind this is my first car .

Thanks,

Paul

P.S. If you need more pictures, let me know.

Thanks sumpex, but no critics at all? :S

I will improve the back today, and I will post pics later today.

What you see is 650 faces (= poly's??) and the wheel has 864 poly's. So the complete car atm has 4756 poly's. I want to be able to use it in GTA VC and NFS 6 probably. Is this polycount (for the amount of work done) ok, or can I add more, like detailed headlights etc.?

If anyone has critics, please let me know.

Thanks!

I think the hood is too roundish.. I think it should be more straight down, instead of curling down... If you know what I mean...
But the rest looks nice Just needs some overall tweaking, but that will come in the end

The blueprints I had were very small and the scale wasn't exactly the same for all the views. I found better blueprints and started using those, but that of course meant realigning every poly and took some time. It looks much better now though imo.

Here are some updates, not much progress, but that's because of the blueprint problems and my final exams in school.

Please tell me what you think, I also posted my first clay render (ty NightEye, for explaining ). The clay render shows a few bugs which I will solve. C & C please!

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks NE . I realy appreciate it .

Does anyone else have C&C? It seems NE (and sumpex) are the only ones interested .

I'll try to finish the headlight today and I will post some pics of the car including the headlight later.

Thanks,

Paul

Although i know nothing about low poly modeling i think it's a good model.Like NE said you've improved alot.Too bad about noone ever commenting...it sucks when only a few people have something to say about your model.

Keep it up....it's coming along well

Thanks o.j. Maybe people are scared when they see the first pictures at the top . Maybe I should edit my first post and put a line on top saying: "DON'T BE SCARED. SCROLL DOWN FOR BETTER PICS!"

Anyways, I'll just keep posting updates and hoping for some C&C . I added headlights yesterday. Still needs some work around that area, the clay render is helpful in finding spots that need to be smoothed.

Thanks,

Paul

Fixed those parts, ty NE.

I also fixed the bumper, tweaked the headlight a little more and I fixed the line above the front wheel, it had to come out more.

You can see the back still needs a lot of work, the front is almost done, although i still need to add another grill in the bumper.

Here are 2 flatshaded pics and a clay render.

Thanks,

Paul

Care to drop some wirepics? That thing above the headlight looks really highpoly..
Other than that, great work
