Fiat Topolino - My first go at this...

Well after messing around and reading all the post I can. Looking through the prints, and reading the tutorials for every car modeling technique. I have started my first car!

I am using MAX R4.

I know this isn't much but here's what I have so far.

How I choose the Topolino. I was looking for reference images for the Torpedo and mistakenly typed the word wrong in the search engine. When I saw what had appeared I liked the car better. Luckly there where BPs here for it so I started.

I am not going to keep this 100% accurate. I plan on some mods to the body to give it a current hot rod appearance. There are no chamfers yet as I thought it will be easier to do later in the modeling phase. I plan on a front air dam, sunken head lights, and possiblely a chopped top. The rear fenders will eventually be wider for some bigger tires...I know lots of plans for a noob right?

Well, a lot of plans.. Maybe first make it stock, and if you still like it enough, mod it
Anyways, looks like a very nice start

@NightEye - Yep, lots of plans. That's the way I was going, to make it stock then mod it. I was saying the mod will be the finished piece to me though, not the stock one. Even though the stock will be a finished piece in it's own right. Thank you for the comment.

@MAXX - Bigginer in modeling vehicles. Yes. Beginner in 3D modeling No. I have spent many years doing architectural, and product design. I started with AutoCAD and moved up to Max about five years ago. I used it primarily for modeling clothes for a program called Poser. I have always wanted to model cars but everytime I tried it would end up looking like a blob of molten metal. Now that I have a forum that I can get help from I think I can finally make something worth looking at. Thank you for the comment.

Small update. I haven't gotten much time to model but the body is getting there. There are allot of errors yet that need fixing. To many sides to the polys. But as this is my first car it's a learning experience... hock:

~Enjoy!~

Well, yes.. Quite some problems.. But overall it looks good, and after some serious fixing, it'll look only better and better
And besides, you've already learned a lot, and we'll all see that in your next car

Nice choice.
I'd start with less polys so tweaking would be easier, but that's just me.
Are the fenders and the main body separate objects?

Palat, just curious.. How can you say that he should start with less polys if we haven't seen the low-poly wire.. Which I and many more would like to see :]

Fenders and body are seperate items. I have been researching the car for the past couple days because it kept looking off to me and found out that the fenders, and running board are also seperate items. Just like the VW Beetle. I think I need to rethink this out and get some more reference images.

Low poly. The wire here is as low poly as I will get. Just my taste nothing against low-poly cars or mesh.

The A pillar looks quite messy/bumpy.. Try to smoothen it out

The rest looks great

Marvin - Thanks for the reply. It did help that I had done other 3D models before but I have learned allot more trying this out. Whenever I modeled it was from prints with demensions on them or it was freehand. I never worked with blueprints like you do here. The color is a modification of Daniel Bucks car paint 2. It looks like metalflake even more with darker colors. It's basically a shellac with the base having a dark gold and the shellac slot having a lighter gold in the difuse slots. Then I added a noise modifier for the specular color of the shellac node.

NE - Yes I know that the pillar is messed I keep tweaking and it doesn't seem to want to play. There's also a spot on the hood that won't correct for me but I am not giving up. Thanks for the comment.

You can control the corner curve on the windows by making cuts where the curve starts, and even a third cut in the middle of the curve.
As for blueprints, they are tricky because one out of three is invariably incorrect Ã*.e. lines are not aligned, front/back is in perspective.
You are going very well but though they are really cool don't get distracted by textures. Focus on modeling for the moment

@Chan
I mentioned the excessive - imo - number of polys because of the first attachment in this thread.

Will a moderator please delete or lock this posting.

Twi bad things have happened and I don't know when or if it will be continued.

1- Crash of HD.
2- Crash of heart. I just got released from hospital after having heart surgery, while in the hospital one of my kids crashed my computer. I am now in process of getting everthing back up and running, but needless to say I had not backed up this model. ..

TIA
