small update
i did end up inlarging the hedlights a bit but according to the side ref i am useing, the headlights arnt very tall. usually as long as i have a side ref and lots of angle pics i can do pretty good. most of my experence in 3d modeling came from low poly firearms, witch you usually only have a base side ref and angle pics

have you ever heard of the autoback folder? your work gets saved in there automatically, every (dont know the amount of time) but if your app shuts down after a couple o fhours of work chances are your only gonna loose like a half hour of work. But you have to make sure that you open it right away becosue if you start doing something else than its gonna start saving that and your old projects will be written over. Anyways its located in the 3ds folder. so just click back out of the scenes and go into autoback and your work will be there, thats is if you didnt start redoing it for a couple of hours. Anyways dont be pissed about that. Yesterday my brotehr tried installing freebsd on my good computer and he screwed up with partitions. so right now he cant get my old files back so i probably lost 3 months of work - (about 600 hours of work) that was not saved on any other disc or computer. It consisted of 2 in progress cars, 1 finfished car. A house, and some other little projects. Well is really sucks to be me right now

Wow, great modelling job ! Looking forwards to seeing this evolve

as Tommy said you should make use of the autobakup feature in max, I have mine set to save in 5 rotating file every 5 minutes, plus that I save manually every 15 minutes or so with the incremental save.

Havent lost anything more than 5 or 15 minutes of work so far ... *knock on wood*

thanks for the tip, no im new with max, i knew that sometimes when max crashes it can attempt to save before it cuts out but i wasent aware that it could auto save. i am usually good about saveing often but sometimes i just get so immersed in my work that i just forget =/ as for your lost info, have you tryed a data recovery program? if you havent i reccomend doing so, they usually can pull stuff even after a disk has been formated (so ive heard). funny story, i have about 3 years worth of work on my secondary drive and when i recently upgraded to xp, it decided that a good portion (about everything important!) was bad sectors of information,
scan disk wiped it all out but i was able to recover it with a recovery program (thankfully) anyways thanks for the encoragment everyone, i will be sure to keep the updates comming

ok i fixed the grill to look more correct. you were right it did look wrong, but it wasint cause of the size of the headlights shown in black in the first pic is the place where the headlight goes, in the second the grill has been lowerd a bit to match the position of the headlights
