Max learner project - 1st gen Camaro
Goddamn, it happened again! >_<
Due to the fact I've lost my post before I could post it twice in a row now, I'm going to have to be brief, make a second post for the pics, and fill in the details after (IE just crashed on me twice in a row, both times when I was attaching the pictures to my post) Learning Max with this first renderable, a misc. 1st generation Camaro. Since I don't know how to use virtually any of the tools or much else, I'm just getting the basic shape down and trying to get a better grip on nurms vs control mesh... I'll edit in the info properly here, meantime I just want to post this and have it not crash before I choke someone, sorry for the bad manners Smooth and control mesh pics of my little start in next post... damn this crashing IE hock:Ed: *menaces IE to behave* So, some of missing info; Mesh has a few hours in it, started it overnight. This is my first try at making anything in Max, apart from a tutorial to make a human model that I'm ever so slowly working my way through. The Camaro mesh has only a basic shape so far, and I'm learning to get the hang of shaping it out from extruding edges, I kinda like this method of working so far (I'm versed in Zmodeler, but only Zmodeler so far...) I didn't try any chamfers, and I don't know how to fill or draw polys yet even ops: So a lot to learn in short, but I thought I'd document it, and get some help from the forum while I'm at it, I learn a lot just reading random replies to other people's threads...C+C on the modelling/mesh structure tips side is very very useful to me, but on the accuracy side, let's just say accuracy is a plus, but not something I'm expecting this early in the game I'm going for a sortof mishmash of 67-69 style Cammys anyway, so yeah, just using a detail from here, a detail from there, but trying to keep it "in theme".And I already majorly screwed up the front I should have an extra row of flat hood polys in front of the induction cowl...![]() Spare change? |

...and it happened yet again >_<
Screw it *uses linkage* 2 iterations; ![]() Control mesh; ![]() I don't know how to light up a render so it actually shows things clearly, sorry for the crappy snaps. Explanations for all of this cursing and lack of real information once the server and/or my computer calms down a bit ![]() ![]() Spare change? |

I'm tempted to blame service pack 2, it's sent everything straight to hell
Just lost yet another post to the same glitch *cackles* ...so more ghetto linkness. There's something strange going on with that corner on the grill surround, but dunno really how to sort it out hehe. Thanks to skatehead for tips on sorting out the wheel arch... ![]() ![]() Spare change? |

Service pack 2 sucks!
I had to format last night to get MAX working again. Cool model so far, I love early Camaros (Yeah, I know there a GM product!) As for around the grill it looks like you chamfered a line in the wrong direction or something simular. ![]() Humpty Dumpty was pushed!!! |

No problems here with SP2, everything works fine
Model looks really good, can't see anything wrong with it except that corner on the front grill. ![]() (\_,/) (O.o) This is Bunny. (> <) Copy Bunny to your signature to help him achieve world domination. SMCars Moderator http://specs.tweak.to/14470 http://www.subzeuz.nl |

Max learner project - 1st gen Camaro
You have to do a fresh install of windows with SP2 to get it to work perfectly. My max 7 works flawlessly with SP2. <ontopic> Looking nice on the camaro, one of the coolest cars ever made

Max learner project - 1st gen Camaro
Thanks all
lmao @ sp2 comments hehe...Fixed that corner on the grille (was a tri created by chamfer I think, welded it and the problem vanished...), working my way towards the back with simplest of shape, detailing comes later, when I can actually cope hock: Looking alright so far I guess/think... Still can't attach pics, damn. ![]() Cheers. Edit: Made a little headway overnight, starting to see the shape I'm looking for... it's all about that rear "hump" when I look at the shape of 1st gen camaro... closer to it this time than any previous attempts I've done. I can see I need to do an awful lot of cutting and chamfering and things to get this starting to look right, but I'm happy with how the shape of the frame is coming along. Progressness, need to work out how to arrange the meeting of the hood and windscreen pillars too, among other things; ![]() More edit: Did that bit. And chamfered in that slight crease along the top of the side panels. A low poly control mesh was spotted fleeing the scene of the crime; ![]() ![]() Spare change? |
