Dodge Challenger Rallye 1972

Well it's been awhile since I've modelled anything, I guess my last work was my hipoly Challenger which I did at last semester I've been really busy lately so modeling has been slow...

I've started this already couple of months ago but didn't have time to continue it, got my summer holiday now so I can dedicate some time to 3D now too.

I'm aiming to put it to GTA IV once Max gets script and I'll get new pc and GTA IV

Anyways, here's the model, polycount 18,7 tris.

Indeed I don't wanna use it either, ZMod2 isn't that bad but it's not nice to use several programs to get the car ingame.

Anyways, I did some optimisation to the mesh. Cars body was too messy and hard to control, I had many areas which were bumpy and not pretty. I also cleaned my wheels a bit, I'm gonna use normal maps for the rims so they don't need to be so hipoly. Gonna use them in other places also, not for the exterior though. All details for it can be done in 3D

The other tyre which has text on the side is hipoly which I will use to bake normal maps. So it will have textures of course

Here's the first try, I need to remodel the tread. It looks awful like that :S

Should be pretty easy to archieve the same with photoshops Nvidia plugins. No need to model the Goodyear letters if you can create them in photoshop (copy paste maybe lol) and convert it to a normalmap in seconds. Highpoly to lowpoly bake is much more useful for stuff like characters or really complex rounded objects you that you cant draw with white or grey to get a normalmap (like the rim lol).

I had created that wheel with the texts already for my hipoly model of Challenger so I thought to use it For the tread I'm gonna create a texture from scratch and use the nVidia plugin

I did the new tread with the nVidia plugin and here's the result. Already much better

Here's first renders, still need to tweak the texture to make grooves look deeper.

Here's the car with smoothing

nice work man !!

i think the wheel is too lowpoly and it doesn't fit with the coherence of the model; you should add some more poly on it to make it round and smooth.

other than that it looks good !

Best Regards;
Salim Ljabli

Here's pic from it. I've detached parts from there so it might not be so good example but hope it will help though

Thanks for the comments, too bad I've had no motivation to continue this more

*gives motivation to Johnas to continue his car*

Well, there might be a max script for GTA IV when the cars done, with all LOD objects, mapping and textures this could take some time. Thats why I wouldnt wait for one, if there really isnt one, get some converter guy from gtaforums or gwm

I surely will finish it, not gonna leave it like that.

When finished I will probably let someone else convert it if I'm not bothered to try it myself
