Bringing alive 1991 24h Le Mans

Me,mcleon and maul decided to bring 1991 Le mans alive. We formed a team, which is still nameless, but this is our first serious project. Our goal is to finish at least 3 highly detailed cars and maybe few not so much detailed ones. De la Sarthe track and a little animation is on the list, too. So this project is really super project.

I'm going to do winner of '91 Le Mans, #55 Mazda 787B with those famous vinyls on it. As some of you may know, 787B was first and still last Wankel-engined, japanese car which has won 24h Le Mans, so it's really legendary car and part of Le Mans history. My process in attachment.

Mcleon is making #21 Porsche 962C and maul hasn't decided his car yet
I'll let them tell more about their cars when they start posting them here

Schedule ain't very strict, but I wish that we would be about 60% finished before 2008

Interesting project!

I'm planning to do about the same thing with two 1970 lm cars!

1) Ferrari 512s "coda lunga" écurie Francorchamp (project status 85%)

2) Porsche 917lh Martini racing (project status 0%)

Hope to finish my project before mid 2008!

Good luck!

we try...

but theres a little change in plans...im not making #21 car
im making #17 the same porsche but has different wing:

Result: 10th (24 laps behind the winner)

Grid: 14th(3:36.114) - 6th fastest qualifier
has/had got a mid engine: Porsche F6 4v DOHC 3164cc 2xKKK
And was droven by Driven by: Oscar Larrauri (RA)/Jésus Pareja (E)/Walter Brun (CH)

its one of the most famous cars after 787B

And our track we're making too

De la Sarthe:

My progress so far, still few bumps I can spot there. I'm pretty busy so I'm doing this pretty slow. Maybe mcleon and maul finish before me

Cool project dudes, hope this is really gonna go somewhere!
My remark for both of ya is to make some better clay renders;
Swap the black background for a dark grey one, use Catmull-Rom AA filter, and perhaps try using Mental Ray and adding a Mental Ray Ambient Occlusion material in the diffuse slot of your car material, will make for much better renders!

Well you should at least make it a habit to change your background from black to dark grey, a black one distracts from your model and hides certain parts.
And if you have V-Ray it's a 2 minute work to set up a scene with Skylight and GI

Good project boys and i hope you take it through the end.
If there is any racing car i like -- and i am not much of a racing car enthusiast -- it's the typical faired body LeMans car.
